Funds donated to the Deanna Mack (J.D. ’08) Endowed Scholarship will be used to support scholarships for students at the University of Houston Law Center (UHLC). Specifically, the targeted scholarship recipients are third-year UHLC students who are active in the Black Law Students Association.
An endowment fund is an investment portfolio with the initial capital deriving from donations. The funds that are raised through an endowment are invested, and the income generated by the investments is used to support the organization’s mission or programs (e.g. financial assistance to UHLC students in this instance). In this respect, an endowment is a perpetual gift as preserving the value of the original donation is a critical objective. Donations to endowment funds may qualify as tax-deductible contributions (please check with a tax advisor or tax accountant for additional information).
