About Deanna

Deanna Mack (J.D. ’08) Endowed Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Deanna Renee Mack, a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center and devoted member of the Black Law Students Association, who passed away from a rare heart defect shortly before taking the bar exam in 2008.

Deanna lived a life marked by faith, compassion, academic excellence, and service. She earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 2005 with a B.S. in Journalism. While there, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta, an organization dedicated to community service and philanthropy.

At UHLC, Deanna balanced her law studies with leadership roles in BLSA, work as an assistant legal editor at Jones McClure Publishing Co., service as Notes and Comments Editor of the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal, and extensive community involvement.

This scholarship was established to continue Deanna’s legacy of academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
